Given that,

An ion Fe²⁺.

To find,

The magnetic moment.

Solution,

Fe²⁺ is an ion. Its electronic configuration is 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^63d^64s^0

It is clear that the total number of unpaired electrons are 4.

The formula used to find the magnetic moment is given by :

\mu=\sqrt{n(n+2)} \\\\\mu=\sqrt{4\times (4+2)} \\\\\mu =4.89\ \text{B.M.}

So, the magnetic moment of Fe²⁺ is 4.89 B.M.
