Given:

  • Atomic weight of Ti = 44.
  • Atomic Weight of Na = 23.

To find:

  • Mass and molecules of Na required to convert TiCl4 to 88 gm of Ti.

Solution:

  • TiCl₄ + 4Na ⇒ Ti + 4NaCl
  • We need 88 gm of Ti i.e 2 moles. So multiplying above equation by 2.
  • 2TiCl₄ + 8Na ⇒ 2Ti + 8 NaCl.
  • We can observe that 8 moles of Na is required.
  • Weight of 1 mole Na = 23 grams is  given.
  • 8 moles of Na = 8*23 = 184gm.
  • 184 grams or 8 molecules of Na are required.

Answer:

  • 8 moles or 184 grams of Na is required to convert TiCl₄ to 88 gm of Ti.
