Given :  data : Mid Value 35 40 45 50 55 Frequency 2 5 8 6 4

To find :  mean deviation from arithmetic mean

Median

Solution:

Mid value       Frequency   CF           Mid value * frequency

35                    2                  2                  70

40                    5                  7                200

45                    8                 15                360

50                    6                21                 300

55                    4                 25               220

                      25                                    1150

Mean = 1150/25 =  46

Median =   42.5  + 5*(25/2 - 7)/ 8

= 42.5 + 3.4375

= 45.9375

mean deviation from arithmetic mean

Mid value       Frequency        Mid value * frequency

|35-46| = 11                   2                      22

|40-46| = 6                   5                      30

|45-46| = 1                    8                      8

|50-46| = 4                   6                     24

|55-46| = 9                  4                      36

                               25                       120

mean deviation from arithmetic mean  = 120/25  = 4.8

mean deviation from arithmetic mean = 4.8
