Answer:-

0.24

Explanation:-

In this solution, HCOOH [Formic Acid] is solute and H2O [Water] is solvent.

Let the total mass of the solution

be 100g.

Then mass of HCOOH is 45g, and mass of water is :-

= 100-45

= 55g

• Molar mass of Hydrogen (H) = 1g/mol

• Molar mass of Carbon (C) = 12g/mol

• Molar mass of Oxygen (O) = 16g/mol

Hence, molar mass of HCOOH :+

= 1 + 12 + 16 + 16 + 1

= 46g/mol

• Molar mass of water = 18g/mol

Number of moles present in 45g of solute [HCOOH] :-

= Given Mass/Molar mass

= 45/46

= 0.98 mole

Number of moles present in 55g of solvent [water] :-

= Given Mass/Molar mass

= 55/18

= 3.05 mole

Mole fraction of solute :-

= Mole of solute/Total mole in solution

= 0.98/[0.98+3.05]

= 0.98/4.03

= 0.24

Thus, mole fraction of HCOOH is 0.24 .
