Atomic mass (A) is 17 means there are 17 ( neutrons+ protons) in the nucleus of Oxygen atom. Now, atomic number (Z) gives the number of protons in the nucleus. For Oxygen Z=8.
The number of neutrons ,N=A-Z=(17–8)=9.
So, there are 9 neutrons in an Oxygen atoms.
We have been asked to find the number of neutrons in 12x10^25 Oxygen atoms.
It is not difficult to see that this number is (12x10^25)x9.
