Let us assume, the present age of Father is x years and present age of Son is y years.
Given:
x = 3y-----------1
Also given:
After 8 years,
x + 8 = 2 1/2 (y+8)
x + 8 = 5/2 (y + 8)
2x + 16 = 5y + 40
2x - 5y = 24 --------2
Substitute the value of x from equation 1 in equation 2
2 * 3y - 5y = 24
6y - 5y = 24
y = 24
Therefore, Father's age is x = 3y = 3 * 24 = 72 years.
After further 8 years, after 16 years
Father's age = 72 + 16 = 88 years
and Son's age = 24 + 16 = 40 years.
So, Father's age is 2 1/5 times son's age.
