Given:

36 g of carbon reacts with oxygen to form carbon dioxide

To find:

Amount of carbon dioxide released

Solution:

C + O2 ----> CO2

 \\  \\ mole \: of \: carbon \: formed \:  \\  =  \dfrac{mass}{molar \:  mass\: }

 \:  \\ mole \: of \: carbon \:  =  \dfrac{36}{12}  \\  \\ molar \: mass \: of \: carbon \: is \: 12g \\  \\ mole \: of \: carbon \: formed \: is \: 3 \: mol

Here,

In C+ O2 ---> CO2

1 mole C gives 1 mole carbon dioxide

3 mole C gives 3 × 1/1 = 3 mole carbon dioxide

Required answer:

Therefore, amount of carbon dioxide released is 3 mole
