mass, m=0.5kg

height, h=20cm = 20/100 = 1/5

Acceleration due to gravity, g=

10m/s^2

work done = force * distance

w= mg*h= 0.5 * 10 *1/5

= 1 Joule

The amount of the work done in raising the glass of the water through a height  is calculated by the amount of potential energy

According to the question,

Mass (m) = 0.5 kg

Height ( h ) = 20 cm

1 m = 100 cm

1 cm = 1/ 100 m

20 cm = 20 / 100 m

= 1/5 m

Acceleration due to gravity = 10 m / s ^2 or 9.8 m / s ^2.

Work done = force . distance

From newtons second law :

Force = Mass × Acceleration

W = m g h ( a = g due to gravity )

Putting the values :

W = ( 0.5) ( 10) ( 1/5)

W = ( 0.5 ) ( 2)

W = 1 joule
