Calculate the amperage of the Iron box of power 1000W used in our house.
Answers
Answer:
Every electrical and electronical equipment comes with the rating specification. Usually it consists of the voltage, current, frequency and the power rating.
V - Volts( Voltage the equipment required for proper operation)
A - Ampere(Current that it draws from the supply for operation)
W - Watts ( The amount of power it consumes )
Hz - Hertz ( The frequency of supply requested for operation for the equipment)
So coming back to the question, If your iron box consumes a total power of 1000 Watts.
1000 Watts = 1kW (1 kilowatt ).
if you run your iron box runs for 1 hour then it consumes a energy of 1kWh, if it runs for 2 hour,
2*1kWh = 2kWh,
then it will consume a energy of 2kWh.
Suppose if you have a iron box that consumes 2000Watts then if it runs for 1 hour, then
2000 Watts = 2kW and it runs for 1 hour so
it will consume a electrical energy of 2kWh and for 2 hours it consume 4kWh.
1kWh = 1 unit of electrical energy. Electrical power companies charge you for the amount of units you consume per month, so as said above if you use your iron box for only 1 hour the whole month then u would have consumed 1kWh, that is, 1 unit of electricity. If the rate of 1 unit of electricity is 3 Rs. for example, then u should pay 3 Rs. to the electrical company. The wattage rating determines how much energy you have consumed and helps to calculate the money you should pay for the electricity company.

Yes, you are right about the 220V that it works at 220 volts.
Every electrical appliance has certain rating in watts or kilowatts which represents the power which is drawn by it.
So, here 1000W shows the power drawn by the iron. By drawn power, it means the current which is drawn. It can be calculated by simple formula
P = V x I
This current can be used to calculate the heat produced in the iron by using
H = I x I x R x t
This rating of power (1000 W) can also be used to calculate the part of electricity bill contributed by your iron.
Suppose you use it for 4 hours. Energy utilised will be
4 x 1000W x 4hrs = 4kWh (4 units)
The charges per unit depends on the supply which you are getting at your house.
