Answer:

The area of Trapezium is 120 cm².

Step-by-step explanation:

Solution :

★ Area of trapezium = 1/2 × (Sum of Parallel sides) × (Height)

We have the parallel sides = SR and PT

Height = ??

We can find the height by Pythagoras Theorem,

In ∆ RTQ,

  • Hypotenuse = RQ = 17 cm
  • Base = TQ = 8 cm
  • Height = RT = y

★ (Hypotenuse)² = (Base)² + (Height)²

⇒ (17)² = (8)² + (y)²

⇒ 289 = 64 + y²

⇒ y² = 289 - 64

⇒ y² = 225

⇒ y = √225

⇒ y = 15

Height = 15 cm

\rule{300}{1.5}

Area of Trapezium -

  • Sum of parallel sides = 8 + 8
  • Height = 15

⇒ 1/2 × (8 + 8) × 15

⇒ 1/2 × 16 × 15

⇒ 8 × 15

⇒ 120 cm²

Therefore the area of Trapezium is 120 cm².
