in computation of Harmonic Mean, we consider the reciprocal values of the observations. but no the original vaues.

the reciprocals will have decreasing value, as the original number increases. Because of this harmonic mean tends to be lower than the arithmetic mean.

Why do we consider the reciprocals? what is the intuitive reason for that?.

can you please explain it based on this illustration

A car travels at 30 kilometers speed for first half of the journey and 40 kilometers for the second half of the journery.

arithmetic mean = 35

Harmonic Mean =34.29.
