calculate the binding energy of Alpha particle in ergs.given masses of proton, neutron,helium nucleus is 1.00758, 1.00897, 4.00820 amu respectively.

Given :

masses of proton=1.00758amu

mass of neutron=1.00897amu

mass of helium nucleus =4.00820 amu

Mass of Nucleus =mass of 2 protons +mass of 2 neutrons

=
2(1.00758+1.00897)
=2x2.01655

=4.0331 amu

mass defect=4.0331-4.00820=0.0249amu


Binding Energy=mass defect x 931mev=0.0249x931=23.18Mev

[since 1amu=931 MeV]

Binding energy =0.00003713ergs
[since 1erg=624,145.70 Mev]
