Correct Question:

Calculate the breath of the rectangle whose length and breadth are in ratio of 5:7 respectively and area is 140m².

Given:

  • length and breadth are in ratio of 5:7

  • Area of rectangle = 140m²

To find:

  • breadth

Let:

  • Length = 5x

  • Breadth = 7x

Solution:

so to find breadth, we should know value of x

We know:

Area = Length × Breadth

by using this formula we can find value of x

  • Area = Length × Breadth

  • 140 = 5x × 7x

  • 140 = (5 × 7) (x × x)

  • 140 = 35 (x × x)

  • 140 = 35(x²)

  • 140 = 35x²

  • 140/35 = x²

Divide numerator and denominator by 7

  • 20/5 = x²

Now Divide numerator and denominator by 5

  • 4/1 = x²

  • x² = 4

  • x = √ 4

  • x = √(2 × 2)

  • x = 2 m

Verification :

  • 140 = 5x × 7x

  • 140 = (5×2) × (7×2)

  • 140 = 10 × 14

  • 140/10 ×14 = 1

  • 140/140 = 1

  • 1 = 1

LHS = RHS

Hence verified!

Value of breadth:

  • Breadth = 7x

  • Breadth = 7 × 2

  • Breadth = 14 m

Happy learning! :)
