we know that,

kinetic energy = 1/2 x mass x velocity^2

let the two velocities be v1 and v2

so change in kinetic energy will be,

1/2 x M x v2^2 - 1/2 x M x v1^2

=1/2 x 2 (16^2 - 8^2)

=256 - 64

=192 joule
