Answer:

18 Ω

Concept used:

  • When a system of resistances are connected in a series combination, then the combined net (total) resistance of this would be the sum of all individual resistances.

Solution:

Let:

  • R₁ = 4 Ω
  • R₂ = 6 Ω
  • R₃ = 8 Ω

Total resistance = R₁ + R₂ + R₃

⇒ Total Resistance = 4 Ω + 6 Ω + 8 Ω

⇒ Total Resistance = 18 Ω

∴ Combined resistance of all 3 resistances = 18 Ω

Given,

Resistor 1 (R₁) = 4ohm

Resistor 2 (R₂) = 6 ohm

Resistor 3 (R3) = 8ohm

Three resistors are connected in series

We need to find,

Equivalent resistance (R₂) = ?

As we know that, if'n' number of resistors are connected in series

Rn R₁ + R₂ + R3 = Rn

Similarly

• Equivalent resistance = R₁ + R₂ + R3

Substituting the values of R₁, R2, R3

→ Rn = R₁ + R₂ + R3

→ Rn = 4 + 6 + 8

→ R₁ = 18ohm
