Calculate the concentration of an ethyl alcohol solution made up of 100 cm 3 of ethyl alcohol and 400 cm 3 of water.

Volume of solute (ethanol): 40 ml Volume of solvent (water): 100 ml

:: Volume of solution = 40+100= 140 ml

Concentration = Volume of solute / Volume of solution

= 40/140 x 100 = 28.59 % (approx.)
