distance covered in nth second is given by,
s = u +  \frac{a}{2} (2n - 1) \\
in this case ,

u=0 m/s
a=g m/s²
n= 1 s
s = 0 +  \frac{g}{2} (2 - 1) \\ s =  \frac{g}{2}  \\ s = 4.9 \: m
