 \bold{ \underline{In \:  Δ \:  ABC  \: , \: </p><p> \:  \: }}

 \to AB = 10 units

 \to BC = 6 units

By Pythagoras theorem ,

 \to AC² = AB² - BC²

 \to AC² = ( 10 )² - ( 6 )²

 \to AC² = 100 - 36

 \to AC² = 64

 \to AC = √64

 \to AC = 8

 \underline{ \bold{In  \: Δ \:  ACD \:  , \: }}

 \to CD = x units

 \to AD = 17 units

 \to AC = 8 units

By pythagoras theorem ,

 \to CD² = AD² - AC²

 \to CD² = 17² - 8²

 \to CD² = 289 - 64

 \to CD² = 225

 \to CD = 15

Hence , the value of x is 15 units
