Given : five resistors of resistance 3Ω, 7Ω, 10Ω, 6Ω and 4Ω are connected in a circuit as shown in figure.

To find : The effective resistance between P and Q.

solution : step 1 : two resistors 3Ω and 7Ω are joined in series combination.

so, effective resistance of these ones , R₁ = 3Ω + 7Ω = 10Ω

step 2 : two other resistors 6Ω and 4Ω are joined in series combination.

so, effective resistance of these ones , R₂ = 6Ω + 4Ω = 10Ω

step 3 : R₁, 10Ω and R₂ are joined in parallel combination between P and Q.

so, effective resistance, Req :

1/Req = 1/R₁ + 1/10 + 1/R₂

= 1/10 + 1/10 + 1/10 = 3/10

Req = 10/3 Ω

Therefore the effective resistance is 10/3 Ω
