the current will be flow when current will flow through the circuit we should take the effective resistance and then current is equals to voltage divided by effective resistance

in the first case when key is open the current will be equal to 24/R EFFECTIVE

R effective =9+3=12 ohm

current is equal to 2 A

the second case R effective is equal to 36/7 ohm

same formula current is equal to 14/3 A
