Answer :

(a) 4Ω

(b) 6Ω.

Solution :

(a) Two resistances (6Ω,6Ω) in the upper arm are in series and their resultant resistance =6Ω+6Ω=12Ω. Further, 12Ωand6Ω (in the lower arm) are in parallel. The resultant resistance of 12Ωand6Ω in parallel is 12×612+6Ω=4Ω.

(b) The resultant resistance of 6Ω,6Ω which are in parallel in the first loop is 6×66+6Ω=3Ω. Similarly, the resultant resistance in the second loop is also 3Ω. Since the two loops are in series, the total resistance between A and B is 3Ω+3Ω=6Ω.
