The equivalent weight of a element is mathematically

given by   =\frac{Molecular mass}{x factor}

Where x factor = acidity

,bascity,charge on the species

In the case of iodine when it reacts with something it generally forms the iodide ion I⁻.

The x factor of the iodide ion is 1 .

So the equivalent weight of iodine is the same as its atomic weight.
