The escape velocity from the moon is 2.4 km/sec

Given-

  • Mass of the moon is = 7.4 × 10²² kg
  • Radius of the moon = 1740 km

We know that from the formula of escape velocity

V escape = \sqrt{\frac{2GM}{R} }

where G is the gravitational constant and its value is 6.7 × 10⁻¹¹ N-m² /kg²

M is the mass which is given and R is the radius, which is also given.

By substituting all the values we get

V escape = √ 2 × 6.7 × 10⁻¹¹ × 7.4 × 10²² / 1740 × 10³

V escape = 2366.4 m/sec

V escape = 2.366 km/sec ≈ 2.4 km/sec
