Calculate the formula weight of glucose (C6H12O6)
Solution :
The formula weight of glucose (C6H12O6) is calculated as follows
Glucose contains 6 atoms of carbon , 12 atoms of hydrogen and 6 atoms of Oxygen.
formula weight = 6*Molecular mass of carbon + 12 * molecular mass of hydrogen +6*molecular mass of oxygen
= 6*12 +12*1+6*16
= 72 +12+96
= 180 grams
Hence Molecular weight of glucose is 180gms
