Calculate the height above the Earth’s surface at which the valueof acceleration due to gravity reduces to half its value on theEarth’s surface. Assume the Earth to be a sphere of radius6400 km.

g' =  G M / d²

g = G M / R²  ,  R = 6400 km

g' / g = 2  given

g'/g = R²/d²        =>  d =  R √(g/g')  = 6400 √2 km
