AnswEr :

Given that,

  • Initial Temperature = 20°C

  • Final Temperature = 45°C

  • Original Length = 30 m

Let the extension in the iron pipeline due to change in temperature be e.

Coefficient of Linear Expansion of Iron is 12 × 10^-6

We know that,

 \sf \: e =  \alpha L \Delta{T}

Putting the values,we get :

 \sf \: e = 12 \times  {10}^{ - 6}  \times 30 \times  ( - 25) \\  \\  \implies \:  \sf \: e =  - 12 \times 75 \times  {10}^{ - 5}  \\  \\  \implies \:  \sf \: e = -  900 \times  {10}^{ - 5}  \\  \\  \implies \:  \boxed{ \boxed{ \sf e =  - 9 \times  {10}^{ - 3}  \: m}}

The extension in the iron pipeline is - 000.9 .
