The interquartile range of the following body weights(in Kg) of children is (a) 7, 16

The Interquartile Range(IQR)

The interquartile range (IQR) is determine, first find the median (middle value) of the lower and upper half of the data. These values are quartile 1 (Q1) and quartile 3 (Q3). The IQR is the difference between Q3 and Q1.

Here to find the (IQR) we have to arrange the data in increasing order.

7 , 7 , 8.5 , 11 , 11 , 12 , 12 , 13.5 , 16

The middle term of this data is being bold in series.

The values are quartile 1 (Q1) = \frac{7+ 8.5}{2}  = 7.75

The values are quartile 3 (Q3) = \frac{12+13.5}{2} = 12.75

Since the value of (Q1) and (Q3) are 7.75 and 12.5 respectively.

Which fall in the range of option (a)  7 , 16
