Calculate the mass of iron which reacts with 36g of steam to form Fe3O4. Also calculate the mass of H2 gas obtained

Mass (Fe) = 84 g

Mass (H2) = 4 g

◆ Explanation -

Moles of steam involved are -

Moles (H2O) = 36/18

Moles (H2O) = 2 mol

Reaction of iron with steam to Fe3O4 is -

3/2 Fe + 2 H2O --> 1/2 Fe3O4 + 2 H2

From this we can say that, 2 mol of H2O reacts with 3/2 mol of Fe to form 1/2 mol of Fe3O4 and 2 mol of H2.

Mass of Fe involved -

Mass (Fe) = 3/2 × 56

Mass (Fe) = 84 g

Mass of H2 involved -

Mass (H2) = 2 × 2

Mass (H2) = 4 g
