An ion refers to the electrically charged atoms after losing or gaining electrons.

Mass refers to the measure of number of atoms in an element or a compound. Now, since 1 mole of oxygen atoms = 16 units and every mole of oxygen contains 6.023 × 1023 atoms,

 Hence, 1 oxygen ion weighs = 1/6.023 × 1023 u.
