in CO₂ the ratio of masses is

12 : 32 = 6 : 16 = 3 : 8

so 6/x  =  3/8  [x is the mass of O₂]

by cross multiplication

=> 6 * 8 = 3x

=> 48 = 3x

=> x = 48/3 = 16 grams

mass of oxygen needed for combustion of 6 grams of carbon to form carbon dioxide is 16 grams
