we have to calculate the mass of oxygen required at STP to convert 3.6 kg of carbon into carbon dioxide.

solution : combustion reaction of carbon is given by, C + O₂ ⇒CO₂

here it is clearly shown that 1 mole of carbon reacts with 1 mole of oxygen.

or, 12 g of carbon reacts with 32g of oxygen.

or, 1 g of carbon reacts with 32/12 = 8/3 g of oxygen.

or, 3.6 kg of carbon reacts with 8/3 × 3.6 kg = 9.6kg of oxygen.

Therefore 9.6 kg of oxygen required at stop to convert 3.6 kg of carbon into carbon dioxide.
