To find the molar mass, simply add up the molar mass of each atom in the molecule. Having a periodic table handy really helps! Molar mass is always in units of grams/mole.
CH3COOH
2 C = 2(12.01)
4 H = 4(1.008)
2 O = 2(16.00)
Total = 60.05 g/mol
DON'T forget sig figs! When I added up the numbers for CH3COOH originally I got 60.052, but according to the rules of sig figs when adding numbers together we need to cut it off after the second spot after the decimal place.
C6H12O6
6 C = 6(12.01)
12 H = 12(1.008)
6 O = 6(16.00)
Total = 180.16 g/mol
CH3COOH
2 C = 2(12.01)
4 H = 4(1.008)
2 O = 2(16.00)
Total = 60.05 g/mol
