We know that,
Molarity = Number of moles / Amount of soln ( in Litres )
Number of moles = Given mass / Molar mass
Given Mass = 4 g
Molar mass = 40 g
So number of moles = 4 / 40 = 0.1 Mole
Amount of solution in litre = 250 ml / 1000 ml = 0.25 Litres
So Molarity = 0.1 / 0.25 = 0.4 M.
