Concept Introduction:-

The mole is the volume of a system's material that includes one mole worth of elementary entities.

Given Information:-

We have been given that  water in a mixture containing 9 g water 120 g of acetic acid and 115 g of ethanol

To Find:-

We have to find that the mole fraction of water in a mixture

Solution:-

According to the problem

Mole fraction of water=number of moles of water/total number of moles.

Number of moles of water=mass/molar mass

Molar mass of water = 18 gram/mol

Number of moles of water = 9/18

Number of moles of water = 0.5

Molar mass of acetic acid = 60 g/mol

Number of moles of acetic acid = 60/120

Number of moles of acetic acid = 0.5

Molar mass of ethyl alcohol = 46 g/mol

Number of moles of ethanol = 115/46

Number of moles of ethanol = 2.5

Mole fraction

=\frac{0.5}{0.5+0.5+2.5}\\=\frac{0.5}{3.5}\\=0.14

Final Answer:-

The correct answer is the mole fraction of water in a mixture is 0.14.
