Since the mass% of ethanol in water is 23%

then there is 23g ethanol for 100g water

Number of moles of ethanol = 23/46 = ½ = 0.5

Number of moles of water = 100/18 = 5.5

Therefore, mole fraction of ethanol

= 0.5/(0.5+5.5) = 0.5/6 = 0.083

Answer:. 0.1

Explanation:;

given w/w%=23%

i.e,. wt of solute/wt of soln =23/100

so , wt of solute is 23

and wt of solvent i.e, water =100-23=77

solute is ethanol

Xethanol=no of moles of ethanol÷total no of moles

=no of moles of ethanol÷no of moles of ethanol +no of moles of water

so no moles of ethanol=wt/ molecularwt=23/46=0.5

no of moles of water=wt/Mwt

=77/18=4.3(approx)

Xethanol=0.5/0.5+4.3

=0.5/4.8

=5/48=0.1(approx)
