Kinetic energy = p^2/2m

Linear momentum p= (2*2*4)^1/2

p= 4 kg ms^-1.

Given:

Mass (m) = 4 kg

Kinetic energy (E.k) = 2j

To Find:

  • Momentum?

Formula Used:

  • Kinetic energy = ½ × Mass × (velocity)²

  • Momentum (p) = Mass × Velocity

Solution:

Find Velocity?

E.k = ½ × mv²

➣ 2 = ½ × 4 × (v)²

➣ 2×2/4 = v²

➣ 4/4 = v²

➣ 1 = v²

➣ √1 = v²

v = 1 m/s

According to the Formula,

After putting the values in the formula of Momentum;

➣ P = 4 × 1

P = 4 kgm/s

Hence,

The Momentum of the body is 4 kgm/s.

Remarks:

  • E.k = Kinetic energy
  • M = Mass
  • SI unit of Momentum is kgm/s.
