Question: Calculate the no.of molecules of S=32 and atoms in 192 g of Sulphur S8.

Solution:

lets understand some basic formula

NO of moles =  \frac{given mass }{atomic weight }

Avagadros number is 6.022 x 10^23

No of molecules = no of moles x avagadros number.

no of atoms = no of molecules x atomicity.

So to start with lets first look at the given data.

Given mass = 192 atomic weight of S8 = 256.

No of moles =  \frac{given mass }{atomic weight }

=  \frac{192}{256}

=  \frac{3}{4}

so now to find no of molecules use formula.

No of molecules = no of moles x avagadros number.

= 0.75 x 6.022 x 10^23

= 4.51 x 10^23

So the number of molecules in 192g of S8 is 4.51 x 10^23.

no of atoms = no of molecules x atomicity.

= 4.51 x 10^23. x 8

= 36 x 10^23.

so no of atoms is 36 x 10^23.
