Calculate the number of atoms in each of the following:

(i) 60 amu of carbon. (RAM C=12u)

(ii) 60 g of carbon.

(iii) 0.5 mole of ozone, O3 (RAM O=16u)

(iv) Oxygen atoms in 200 g of CaCO3.( Ca = 40u, C = 12u and O = 16u)

(v) Each type of atoms in 3.42 g of sucrose ( C12H22O11)

Answer:

1 60/12=5, 5 atoms in 60 amu of carbon

2 12g contain avagadro no ie NA of atoms then

60g contain NA /12*60=5NA atoms

3 1 mole contain 3 NA atoms then

0.5 mole contain 3 NA *0.5=1.5NA atoms
