Calculate the number of moles of 02 required to produce 240 g of MgO by burning Mg metal. [Atomic mass: Mg=24, 0=16]

240 grams of MgO requires 3.00 moles of O₂.

Explanation:

Reaction - 2Mg + O₂ ------> 2MgO

RMM of MgO = 24 + 16 = 24+ 16 g = 40g

No. of moles of MgO required= Given mass/RMM

                                                 =240/40 = 6.00

According to the reaction,

2 moles of Mg requires 1 mole of O₂

1 mole of Mg requires 0.5 moles of O₂

6.00 moles of Mg requires (0.5X6) = 3moles of O₂

ANS - 240 grams of MgO requires 3.00 moles of O₂.
