The value of the numerical aperture is 0.556

Explanation:

We are gievn that:

  • Refractive index of material 1 = 1.6
  • Refractive index of material 2 = 1.5

Solution:

The formula to find out the numerical aperture of an optical fiber is given below.

Numerical aperture = √n1^2 - n2^2

Numerical aperture = √1.6^2 - 1.5^2

                               = √2.56 - 2.25

                              = √ 0.31

Now solve the square root.

Numerical aperture = 0.556
