Explanation ⇒

Chemical formula of Butryic acid = C₄H₈O₂.

It contains three different atoms, namely Carbon Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Molar mass of Butryic acid or C₄H₈O₂ = 12 × 4 + 1 × 8 + 16 × 2

= 48 + 8 + 32

= 48 + 40

= 88 g/mole.

Now, mass of carbon in Butryic acid or C₄H₈O₂ = 12 × 4

= 48 g.

∴ % composition of Carbon in Butryic acid = (mass of carbon in compound/molar mass of compound) × 100

= 48/88 × 100

= 54.54 %

mass of hydrogen in Butryic acid or C₄H₈O₂ = 1 × 8

= 8 g.

∴ % composition of Hydrogen in Butryic acid = (mass of Hydrogen in compound/molar mass of compound) × 100

= 8/88 × 100

= 100/11

= 9.09 %

mass of Oxygen in Butryic acid or C₄H₈O₂ = 16 × 2

= 32 g.

∴ % composition of Oxygen in Butryic acid = (mass of Oxygen in compound/molar mass of compound) × 100

= 32/88 × 100

= 36.36 %

Hope it helps.
