Calculate the percentage increase in mass of an electron accelerated by a potential difference of 500 kV

According to the problem the electron is accelerated by the potential difference of 500 kv = 5000v

Now we know that the charge of an electron is 1.6 x 10^(-19)C

Therefore the energy gained by the electron is ,  5000x1.6 x 10^(-19)Joule

Therefore by using mass energy equivalent theorem , the mass increase in electron, e/c^2=   5000x1.6 x 10^(-19)/9 x 10^16 = 8.9*10^-33 kg

Now we know that the mass of the electron is 9.1*10^-31 kg

Therefore we can say that the mass of the electron is increased for gaining energy is 1/100 of the original mass.
