Answer:

0.00001= 1 x 10^-5. Since HCl is an acid, 1 x10^-5 is the H+ concentration. Write only the number of the exponent. Therefore, pH = 5.

Given :

Concentration of HCl = 0.0001 N

To Find :

pH of 0.0001N HCl solution

Solution :

The pH of a solution is defined as the negative logarithm (where base is 10) of its H⁺ ion concentration.

              pH  =  - ㏒[H⁺]

Concentration of H⁺ [H⁺] = 0.0001 N

                                        = 10⁻⁴ N

                                        = 10⁻⁴ M

∴ pH of 10⁻⁴ M HCl = - ㏒ [10⁻⁴]

                               = 4

Hence, the pH of 0.0001 N HCl solution is 4
