Calculate the pH of the solution when 500 ml of 0.5N of HCl is mixed with 1000ml of 0.75N of NaOH are mixed.​

when the above are mixed, you will get NaCl salt and NaOH base in excess, where salt does not contribute to pH whereas NaOH does

N₁V₁n₁=N₂V₂n₂

where N= normality; V= volume; n= number of moles

1, 2 subscript stands for HCl and NaOH

∴ (0.5)(0.5)(1)=(0.75)(V)(1)

=>V=1/3L

Volume of NaOH left is 2/3L whose pOH is given by:-

[OH^{-}]=\frac{(0.75)(\frac{2}{3} )}{(1.5)}=\frac{0.5}{1.5}=3

∴pOH=-log(3)=-0.477

pH=14-0.477=13.5
