Calculate the power of a pump which can lift 480kg of water through a vertical height of 10m in 20 second . Take acceleration due to gravity = 10m/s

  • Acceleration due to gravity, g = 10 m/s

To find :

  • Power of the pump, P = ?

Formula required :

  • P = W / t = ( m g h ) / t

[ Where,

P = power ; W = work done ; t = time ; m = mass ; g = acceleration due to gravity ; h = height ]

Solution :

Using formula

→ P = W / t

→ P = ( m g h ) / t

putting values in RHS

→ P = ( 480 × 10 × 10 ) / 20

→ P = ( 480 × 100 ) / 20

→ P = 480 × 5

P = 2400 Watt

Therefore,

  • Power of the pumb is equal to 2400 Watt .
