Calculate the pressure exerted by a brick, which applies a force of 2.5 N, when
(a) It is placed upright on the soil,
(b) It is placed on its widest base.
(The dimensions of the brick are 25 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm.)

Explanation:

pressure=force/area

when it placed upright its length and breadth will be 10and 5

so area =10×5=50cm*2=500Nm*2

in case b it is placed on widest base i.e.25cm

so area=25×10=250cm*2=0.25m*2

pressure=2.5/0.25=10Nm*2
