Calculate the pressure necessary to compress one mole of oxygen at NTP to one tenth of its

volume at constant temperature using

(i) Perfect gas equation.

(ii) vander Walls gas equation (a = 1.36 atm lit2

/mole2

; b = 0.0316 lit/mol).

Explanation:

(i) perfect gas equation:pv=nRt

at constant temperature ,pv=constant

p1v1=p2v2

at NTP p=1bar

1×v=p×v/10

so,p=10bar
