Given:

Mass of ice= 1.5kg

The temperature of ice= 0°C

The temperature of water = 15°C

Latent heat of fusion of ice = 3.35 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹

specific heat of water = 4186 J kg⁻¹ °C⁻¹

To Find:

Quantity of heat required to convert 1.5 kg of ice at 0°C to water at 15°C

Solution:

Quantity of heat required = mass of ice x Latent heat of fusion of ice

= 1.5 x 3.35 × 10⁵

= 502500 J

Quantity of heat required = mass of ice x specific heat of water x change in temperature.

=1.5 x 4186 x (15 - 0)

= 94185 J

Therefore total Heat energy = 502500 + 94185

=596685 J
