Answer:

RMS velocity of a gas is given by

Vrms = √(3RT/M)

where,

R is the gas constant 8.813 J/K/mol

T is the temperature in kelvin at which velocity is measured [NOTE: higher the temperature higher is the kinetic energy of the gas]

M is the molecular mass in Kg of the gas taken

RMS velocity for Oxygen gas at 273KK:

Vrms = (3RT/M)½

= [3(8.3145 (273 K)/3.2 x 10-²]½

= (2.128 x 10^5 m²/sec²)½

= 461 m/sec
