Calculate the ratio of the intensities of the two waves, if amplitude of first beam of light is 1.5 times the amplitude of second beam of light.​

Let the amplitudes be 5x and x

Now,resultant waves will have maximum amplitude when both are in phase

They add up 5x+x=6x

During destructive interference the waves are out of phase

The resultant amplitude is x−5x=−4x

♦Maximum intensity = (maximum amplitude) ²

=36x²

♦minimum intensity = (minimum amplitude) ²

=16x²
